Principles of Business and Finance

The Principles of Business and Finance programme has been designed to enable students to appreciate and develop knowledge and skills in a broad range of topic areas that are relevant to everyday business. This unit introduces an understanding of the more common legal structures and regulations relating to business entities. The different internal and external factors that affect a business are explained and their importance explored. Significant principles of financial planning and management are examined, a focus on making best use of available resources and the importance of cash flow to the business. Learners will also examine the significance of effective market research for business planning. Learners will benefit from a personal perspective by developing knowledge and skills which will enable them to embark confidently on a successful business career. Delivery engages topics that are at the forefront of modern day business techniques. At the end of the programme, learners will receive the Principles of Business and Finance (SCQF Level 7) Award.  

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This programme is particularly suited to aspiring business owners, business owners/entrepreneurs and managers, etc., who want to develop necessary skills, knowledge and competencies to succeed in the marketplace.  

TEACHING, LEARNING, ASSESSMENTS

Teaching and learning will be undertaken 100% online through tutor directed study, lectures, seminars and tutorials. Learners will be encouraged to develop their skills in self-directed learning, which will take place outside the formal classroom environment. Formative assessments will arise through projects, case studies, research and testing wherever appropriate. Summative assessment will be through responses to assignments enabling learners to demonstrate their understanding of the subjects they have studied. There is no exam for this programme. Assessment of all learning outcomes will be via assignments.  

PROGRAMME DURATION

The Principles in Business and Finance will run over 6 weeks – 4 weeks of study and tutorials and 2 weeks for completion and submission of assignments.

SUCCESSFUL COURSE COMPLETION

This unit is made up of 5 credits. A learner will, on average, take 50 hours (incl. class time, self-study and assessment) to complete each course.  

FEES

The Principles of Business and Finance is €750.00 for the 6-week course. A student may decide to work at their own pace, which will invariably extend course duration.
